After setting the center focus point. Can it be set to always be centered, even after powering off?

Alan

both of my cameras retain all settings, even without a battery.

maybe there is a setting that takes your camera back to a certain set-up everytime it's turned off?

As long as you are using the creative modes P, M, Av, or Tv, your focus point selection will remain as you set it. If you select one of the canned modes (portrait, sports, etc.), you have no choice as to focus points.
