Finally got some time off to go out shooting. I took a series of shots at a nearby marsh (this is one of two I like that I've posted). I've passed by this location hundreds of times, trying to visualize shots. (there is a housing development in the background that limits the angles of shooting). Post processing included a levels adjustment, boosting contrast, and selective burning of ice patches and sky. Let me know what you think, including composition (I struggled with this). I'm happy with this shot, but let me know what you think...
exif: 1/30, f20, ISO100, 18mm, tripod mounted, remote shutter release.

Hi Alan,
I prefer this shot over Winter Marsh II. Sure is sad to have so little snow around these parts at the end of January....maybe February will be better!

Beautiful shot!
Nice composition and good detail everywhere.
Not where I want to be, but it looks real and conveys cold!
I really like the way the dark cloud seems to be coming in from the left.

Thanks for the comment Scott. Yes, it's been a lousy winter (not enough snow, but I don't mind the warm temperatures). After having such a hot summer in 2005, I thought we would pay dearly with bitter cold temperatures and lots of snow!

I mentioned in the other marsh post that I've always wanter to take four shots at this exact location- one for each season. Hopefully I'll be able to this year! I think I'll use this shot as the fixed position.

Thank you for the comments Bob. I was most interested in compositional comments for this shot as the day was overcast. But I think that a desolate winter shot like this benefits from the poor light conditions. Your comments, tutorials, and insights in this forum are very much appreciated and enjoyed. Thank-you.

Well done Ajbalazic.
Cold, bleak and desolate with an atmosphere of "aftermath". The small broken tree on the left caught my eye. The only nit pic i have with this is the presence of the twigs in the bottom right of the photograph.

Thank you Overbeyond for the kind comments. I agree, the twigs are distracting.

What's incredible is that this desolate place is so alive with wildlife in the summer. It's actually noisy with all the insects and birds that live here. You can't count the Canada geese that live here! Marshes/bogs are so much fun...
