I am thinking of getting a MacBook Pro Retina to replace my old Acer laptop, but was wondering how I could install Canon DPP from the original disc. Is there a way to do this, or is it possible to transfer the app from my old computer?

Any help would be very much appreciated.

Does not your original disc include the "Digital Photo Professional.app" or something with a .dmg suffix. ?

I have the original disc and yes it does have DPP installed, but my problem is, the macbook doesn't have a disc player and no means of inserting a disc.

I was wondering if it would be possible to record the DPP app onto a USB stick and then transfer it that way. There must be a way of doing this. Lots of people on the forum have macbooks and some must use DPP. How do they install DPP in the first place?

Yes, just copy the disc onto a flash drive and install it from there.

Thanks, I thought it might be possible, but I didn't want to risk ruining a new £1700 laptop.

You should pick up an external USB optical drive too. You can get several very good ones thatll burn DVDs and the what not for around $55.

1. Download the current DPP Updater from the Canon web site.
2. After it downloads, double click on the disk image to mount the virtual disk.
3. Copy the DPP installer from the virtual disk to your desktop, then eject the virtual disk.
4. Right-click (or control-click) on the desktop DPP installer then choose "Show Package Contents".
5. Navigate to Contents/Resources and then drag the file "Info.datx" to the trash. Close the window that has Contents/Resources.
6. Double click the installer on your desktop and install DPP.

"Raw" is not an acronym, abbreviation, nor a proper noun; thus, it should not be in capital letters.

Purchase a USB Superdrive so you can read program CD/DVD disks, play and rip music CD/DVDs, and write disks. The wife and I share one drive between our rMBPs.

Do keep in mind that there are multiple ways for OSX devices without optical drives to 'borrow' the drive from another system on the network they are connected to.

If you have another mac with a DVD drive you can set that machine to share the DVD drive and then use it remotely from your new Mac Pro.
