There pretty much giving it away the 22mm lens alone sells for $249 the 18-55 sells for $299 that makes the camera $50.

If there coming out with a new body why not just drop the price of the body only and offer it seperatly?

There also not releasing the new 11-22 lens in the US.

It seems to me there doing away with the whole m-mount system, I hope there making a whole new mount that has room to fit a focal reducer between the body and ef-mount lenses.

I just dont understand the whole sale/giveaway the only EOS-m body when there is no replacement anywhere in sight.

Who knows what Canon is up to? What I know is that many of us are enjoying the great little EOS-M now that the price is reasonable and the slow AF fixed. Its a fun camera.

There are rumors of replacement M's, both a direct M replacement and a more upscale version as well as focal reducer in the works, but Canon isn't letting much info out at this time, which is really a shame and a marketing blunder IMHO.
Canon has been up to a few strange moves lately but that's pretty par for the course for what they've been doing for a while! LOL!!

The M was a bit of a half-assed effort on Canon's part since they clearly don't believe in the mirrorless market but felt compelled to offer something. Then it bombed because it was indeed...half-assed. You would think after the massive firesale they have done on the M, and by doing so gained a ton of users, they would realize they have created a customer base for future lenses and would advertise so.
But like I said, with Canon, who knows! LOL!

I disagree. This is similar to the rationale for not going from Nikon to Canon or vice versa. Selling the camera with the lens ties you into the system and then, when Canon introduces the next generation of M-mount bodies, you might be more likely to upgrade the body because you already have the lens(es).

Third that.

This is exactly analogous to what happened with the HP TouchPad, or, more recently, the Microsoft Surface tablets. And we all know how those turned out when they were not well-received by the public.... Not good.

My guess with Canon and the current M model is that they are trying to unload the old stock so that they can start fresh with an improved M model for the Christmas holidays.

for 300, it's quite the steal, considering the firmware update improved it massively.

It's difficult to imagine that Canon would develop such a fine lens as the 11-22mm M for an obsolete system. Seems more likely that they are either abandoning the US market completely (unlikely), or they intend selling the new M body with the 11-22mm as a kit, and this is the only way to actively discourage US buyers for a couple of months until a new M is announced.

Come on man, you list everything down to the rechargeable batteries you use in your gear list, but I don't see anything about an EOS-M... I too had a low opinion of the M until I actually tried one. Don't believe all the review BS. This is a great little camera, very fun to shoot with and great IQ. The touch screen rocks and the one main problem area, AF speed, has been fixed. Give the M a try, you may just like it.

he's right, it was half assed for sure. I bought the M with previous firmware, and in good light, it was slow as heck, like my cell phone, and forget about poor light. IQ with the 22 is no doubt phenomenal, but the AF was pretty damn crippled. The firmware made it very serviceable, but that's a recent fix, and had I bought it for the original price, I would have been very disappointed.

essentially, for most of it's shelf life, it's been a half assed product.

Question: Assuming this is to clear out inventory, what incentive does Canon (or any manufacturer of any product in this situation) have to help stores clear out inventory?

Mirrorless does better overseas. I don't know how well the EOS M is doing, but it seems like if Canon really wanted to dump these things, they could do it overseas for a higher price. So essentially they are just helping the stores here in the USA get rid of these things, so what incentive does Canon have to help out in that regard?

I use a 40d and a 5d3 and recently bought an M, and I see no issues at all with the af speed, i think it is perfectly fine, think the biggest "problem" with the M is it looks like a point and shoot and that crowd bought it and quickly realized it does not behave like a point and shoot and it has gotten trashed, take a look at the slickdeals thread, they are freaking out because the LCD screen may have a hot pixel,

I still don't understand why canon would develop a 11-22mm then not release it to the us market, I think they are gonna develop a whole new mount that a focal reducer would fit in.

Also, I think it's pretty telling that even at this price (which has been going on for what, 2 weeks?) the cameras still are generally in stock (Amazon has both kits right now). Mirrorless just does not seem to be picking up much steam here in the USA.
