5D Mark II vs 6D

Thoughts or anyone have experience with both?

My situation.

Getting my 7D replaced by insurance. Wanting to upgrade to full frame.

Main use:


Portrait style work.
Alot indoors, quite a bit outdoors.
Action shots, but not continuous.
I do a lot of very close up stuff, also macro eventually.

I really want the 5D mark II but I also realized the 6D is newer and around the same price.

Will be getting the bodies Brand new.

The 6D. Look at the specs side by side. There's not much where the 5D2 has an advantage. And the ISO performance on the 6D is outstanding.

I just sold my 5DII for a 6D because I got a great deal. I'll never look back. The 6D is fantastic - especially for what you describe.

2008 vs 2013.

6D assuming the price is right. If you can get the 5D2 for a few hundred less, then consider that option.

the 6D has a more overall better features than the 5D2 while the 5D2 has better ergonomics/control and shutter rating.

both have really good image quality, but the 6D has better ISO 3200 and up. Not sure how much better since both get rather muddy and I tend to avoid shooting that high when possible.

joystick is so much better than joypad, however if you can make due with the joy pad, then the 6D wins feature wise. If you live in really sunny areas and have fast primes, you may need an ND filter where with the 5D2, you can get by sometimes.

YUP!

6D. The 5DII doesn't really have any meaningful advantages except price if you buy used, and even then I would be tempted to say 6D. Not because the 5DII is bad, but because the 6D is just so much newer that it has much more "life" left in it.

Its like comparing the 28-70 f/2.8 and the 24-70 f/2.8.
Sure the 24-70 is newer, more recent technology, but is it really better?!

My 5D Mk II makes me perfectly happy, the only thing I would upgrade to is the MK III.
The 6D is a good camera for sure, but (as my friend also said) its not that better, that its wort to "upgrade".

If you are coming from a 7D tough, the AF system of both these cameras is worse then that of the 7D.
AND THAT could make you being disappointed. If you really want to feel like upgrading, then the 5D Mk III is the only way to go, it is the only (not 1 Series) camera realy superior to the 7D.

Now if you can't afford the 5D Mk III, and looking at the prizes, the 5D Mk II should be around $2100, and the 6D around $2600.
The question is: Is the 6D that much better for your needs, that is it worth the $500 extra, or can you get something for the 5D Mk II for $500, that makes it a better deal.
In all honesty, comparing camera specs side by side does not make that much difference.
Its the photograper, and his (rest) gear that makes that difference.

For example, for that $500 you could get a nice tripod, and use it to make nice night shots...
Now its nice that the 6D has better HIGH ISO performance, but without that Tripod, it does not really matter, because you won't shoot night pictures at 1/20sec, but at 30s, and for that you NEED a tripod, or something that holds your camera.
Or you can get a quality ND filter, and make stunning long exposure shots, at daylight - without that filter, no matter wich camera is better, you can't make these shots.

I upgraded from the 7D and am very pleased with the image quality. I like to shoot events/conventions where lighting is often less than optimal. I love the high ISO performance. I agree that the 7D has better AF performance except in very low light situations (where I do a lot of my shooting). The 6D rocks at car shows! I was never really shooting fast moving subjects so I really didn't see much difference. I'll always have fond memories of my 7D (my first DSLR). It is a great camera. I bet that 7DII is gonna be amazing, but I can't really justify having 2 bodies. If you are shooting lots in low light, rent a 6D and see what you think. I don't think you'd see much difference if you are shooting at ISO 3200 or under.

I assume VA Beach is in US.

Here used 5dmk will sell for like $1300-$1400 while you can get brand new 6d for $1300. Too many nice deals going on. So if 5dmk2 was like $1000 then I agree pick 5dmk2 but with what they selling 6d for, I would pick 6d.

I am not saying that coz I picked 6d. If funds are there 5dmk3 all the way. But even here you talking close to $2900.

Why is this comparison even being made anymore? Get the 6D.

I have both and the 5d Mark 3 is far better. Far better focusing. I strongly recommend thE 5d Mark 3.
