canon 70-200 2.8 mkii or tamron 24-70 2.8 & 70-200 2.8

hey wassup my fellow forum members yesterday I got offered crazy deal. Brand new tamron 70-200 2.8 vc & tamron 24-70 2.8vc for my canon 70-200 2.8 mk ii. I sold my version one of the canon 24-70 to save up and get the mk ii but with this I can use that money for Einstein's so what should I do!? I want to get into fashion and portrait photography....

While both great lenses and I can definitely see the appeal in the trade, I however could never part with my 70-200 MkII. That said.. are you saying that both Tamron lenses are brand new? If so you could trade, sell the Tamron lenses, and then purchase a mint lightly used Canon 70-200 MkII and have a few hundred bucks in the bank I am guessing as retail is $2600 on the 2 Tamron lenses.

I would not give up my 70-200 MK II for all the Tamron lenses combined in their line-up.

lol that was a powerful statement @ the lens guy. and i been working my ass off to afford it! i just haven't been able to shoot with it yet. I have a 50 1.2, and a 70-200 2.8 mkii. I just want a good wide lens. I believe i have a great fashion line up to learn its just honestly stomaching the fact that i spent 1900 on it!

and also a 85 1.8 my friend gave me. I honestly decided to buy good glass because i want to keep them forever and plan on starting a business taking my fashion photography serious

I dont think that deal is too "crazy". The 24-70VC can be found for $950ish new, and the 70-200VC for $1200 new. Really about the same price as a new 70-200MKII.

I know you plan to keep them, but if you ever did decide to sell in the future, which one do you think would retain their value better? I'm betting on the canon. I wouldn't do the trade.

Where are you seeing those prices on the Tamron lenses?

Cameraland has the 70-200vc for $1299 if you call them (or buy from their ebay store), plus $100 tamron rebate. They are an Authorized dealer.

Someone posted about the 24-70vc in the market watch section, but I dont remember the exact price...it was around $950. I just didn't pay too much attention to it because I have a 24-70II, but if you are interested, just check that section..I'm sure it'd be pretty easy to find.

Found both. Ebay from Cameraland is showing one Tamron 70-200 for $1299. A demo lens. Unless I have the wrong cameraland (which is possible) they are showing $1499 on their website. Are they dropping the price $200 + $100 rebate if you call them? (assuming it's camerlandny.com or do I have the wrong site?)

would never sell my 70-200 mkII, seriously you should just forget about tamron, invest in a canon 24-70 2.8 II and save up for Einstein's later on. light is light, nothing is going to beat great glass!

They have to list as demo to sell at a cheaper price, but the lenses are new.
Give them a call to get the price and make sure you can use the rebate form...my understanding is yes because someone else on the forum did so.

I'd sell the 50 1.2 and 85 1.8 before I'd touch the 70-200.

ok thanks for the info guys but i do love my 50 1.2 lol so i guess i might just save up and forget the lights i have a couple old Nikon flashes with wireless triggers so i will use that until i master them and then upgrade. I guess you guess are right when i started a year ago the best advice i heard was "you should always invest your money on good lens before anything else" and quick question what about if i get a 17-40 to fill in that gap? So i would have a 17-70, 50 1.2, and 70-200 2.8 mkii and like i said im mainly going to get into fashion and portraits
