Grand Prismatic and the time of day

Here are a couple shot taken at 2 different times of day.. same day, same photo location.

Its one of those times that the closer to noon that you shoot, the better the shot. At least I think so. (The exif time stamps are wrong by 2 hours since I didn't reset the camera clock for the time zone change)

Both were edited in lightroom, but the received very similar adjustments.

Interesting... I hadn't thought that high sun would be best for the colors. Figured the viewer (whether person or sensor) would need some refracted light to bring out the hues.

grand prismatic was one of the very few places we ended up not being able to see. I'm kind of bummed know, that looks awesome

I think it has more to do with letting the Fog clear of so that you can see the colors.

Maybe, to some extreme, but the high sun lights up the depths of the color better. The difference here vs a normal pond, is that the color is IN the hot spring, not reflected off the surface. Much of the color is from micro organisms that live in the water. This effect can be illistrated by the color of the steam (not fog, as these are hot springs) in the afternoon images. The steam is blue, the actual color of the water.
