Well, not strictly speaking a beast, this is my pet Mediterranean Spur Thighed Tortoise, William!

I chose a shallow DOF to isolate the eyes
Sometimes I like the effect with the blurring of the nostrils and sometimes not - I keep changing my mind

Taken on my Canon 7D with the fabulous Canon 100mm f/2.8 L Macro lens

You can see some iridescence on the skin, which I have recently found out is not uncommon with reptiles
