I'm glad to see folks are taking some time out of their busy summer to participate in the challenge this past week. Be it too hot, too busy, too relaxin', you all did terrific. So some brief commentary and judging:
teekay - Fractal Fern, there's always the wipe of the brow when the first entry comes in, validating the topic and poking awake other people's creative juices. Thanks, teekay for being that person.
This is one of my favorite plants to shoot and i find it hard to really do them justice. Maybe I over complicate my compositions. Yours is straight forward and to the point. My first opinion was that the background was perhaps a bit too detracting from the main subject, the branch. Crop the background out? Might be too static. Crop the branch top and reveal only the sky beyond? Maybe. Fun vision to play with, and no real answers to offer you.
Jason C - The Creeping Advance of Light, you and Scatterbrained, got me going with your fleeting captures. I really like the composition, but because the heavy shade is so pervasive, I think maybe the blue in the rug kind of works against the image's theme. Desaturate or selective color ((Oh, horrors!), but I do love the wood floor tones. Go figure...
Maureen - Palm Fronds, look at all that zig-zag! I like it! Here's the think though...I think the upper right corner detracts from both those Z's. Crop it tighter, bring us into the pattern and I think it would be awesome.
ninobrn99 - Power from Geometry, I'm liking it, and it's..it's so close! I'm wishing you took one or two more steps left and centered the second structure within the first in order to get that symmetry you were aiming for. I really enjoy these structural images and the B&W conversion, I agree, is the way to go. I think it's important to try not losing that wiring in that brilliant cloud cover, but that's a tough order. I wish too that the vision was a bit longer, with more stanchions, but I appreciate the situation. Very good.
glxtrix - color wheel, I'm guessing wheelbarrow. Terrific color, sharp detail in the focus, interesting lighting variations, I'm liking it a lot.
M_Six - Fountain, you're making me thirsty. Good focus, straight lines, it's an interesting object. I'm not sure the background jazzes me, but short of going at this scene at different angles, doing something a bit bizarre, I'm short on suggestions. You did a fine job framing a repetitive pattern.
fsbk - Brochure Cover, I'm sure Ford will be calling.
Too bad you cleaned the grill, some bug death would have added some terrific angst to the image. Nice focus, good variation in the shade, and nice control with the vignette. Solid.
Scatterbrained - Barriers, I'm guessing we have a nighttime scene here. The high ISO was part of the clue, plus the double shadows that assisted in making the geometric pattern. I really like the image and am wondering if you could have stepped back a few paces adding more detail to the bottom of the image and cropped the top a tad. I enjoy the angle, don't mind the DOF, and thoroughly enjoy the play of light and shade.
T3 Heavy Shop - 323, nice symmetry (Down to the address number even!), solid b&w conversion, terrific detail. Who needs a tilt-shift when you can have all this fun with converging lines? Did you have to wrestle much with the lens distortion? Solid.
Runner up: glxtrix
Winner: T3 Heavy Shop
Nice going, everyone. All yours T3!
