Fabulous bottle fly. I am so jealous of everyone getting great shots of these and I just cannot! Lovely set, Ian and sweet light also.

Ian, can you share your setup for these shots, and your last set? I love the lighting and am curious what you're dong to achieve it.

Thanks again all.

FP. My light set up is quite the cumbersome setup. I'm using a Canon 100mm F2.8L on my EOS 7D. Sometimes with, sometimes without extension tubes of varying size. These all without ext. tubes.

The Flash is a Speedlite 430EX II and the Diffuser is a Lastolite Ezybox Speedlite. 20cmx20cm. It's big and it's clumsy but it seems to work well enough. I admit, it could be a LOT better and I certainly do need a more mobile solution (look daft poking a camera in to flowers etc. with a big softbox on out in public :D).

Inside the softbox I've put a sheet of styrofoam packaging to soften the light even more as it was still a touch harsh with just the standard panel on.

This is a photo of it on a camera (this is not me) and is pretty much what mine looks like although I have mine a little looser so it's angled down a touch and I also don't use a lens hood with it. Because it's so big, the light source is right up at the front of the lens.

yep, you should look ridiculous with that setup in public, but hey, if the lights works then it will be you laughing :D

wow Ian! that,s a monster!
must be hard to maneuver.i have the lumiquest mini-softbox,for use with my 580ex11,and it works pretty good, with a little extra diffusion on the inside, and much smaller, but of course needs to be on a bracket to get it up front.

Thanks for the info Ian. We share a similar setup, certainly gear as I also use the 7D, 430EX II, and Canon 100mm though mine is not the L glass model. I skipped this thinking my camera would be on a tripod so who needs IS but find myself being hand held the majority of the time. HA!

To soften the light my methods are even more cumbersome as I use a reflector, or just get my flash off the camera. Your lighting looks very natural and I like it a lot.

Again thanks for sharing, it's conversations like that I find most helpful.
