Just curious if anyone has seen this ad in their area or heard/read about his being a scam? (Misspelling of the city name throws up one of many flags. ;) )

Freelance Photographer needed to shoot Milwaukee Landmarks (Milkwaukee)

Money Making Opportunity for Amateur/Freelance Photographers in Milkwaukee.

We are currently seeking a freelance photographer to shoot a collection of iconic images of Milwaukee for our stock collection. We will provide you with a list of 25-50 landmarks that we require for our collection, but we will also allow you the freedom to use your local knowledge of the area to add any other landmarks to the collection. You can submit as many images as you like to us, but we will only pay for the ones we choose for the collection. Most collections end up with 50 to 100 photos. We will pay you $10 per photo we select, so you have the opportunity to make anywhere from $500 - $1000.

All photos must be taken with a digital SLR camera with a minimum of 10 MP. Photos must be shot in Fine Raw format, and submitted to us unedited. We would prefer someone who is either a native of Milkwaukee or has lived there for quite some time and is very familiar with the area's history as well as the trendy hot spots.

If selected for this assignment, you must be ready to start immediately. You will be given a 2 week timeframe in which to shoot. This job can easily be done shooting only a few hours a day for 7 - 10 days. We will also spell out more specific guidelines if you are selected as far as how we expect the images to look composition wise.

Once we select images and payment is rendered, the photographer relinquishes all rights to the photographs and must sign a document stating this.

If interested, please respond via email with at least 5 sample images of your work, also tell us of your knowledge of the city, and what kind of camera/lenses you will be working with. Resume's not necessary.

no, but it seems low ball for the amount of time and effort to get all those pics...

I dunno. If one were to shoot landmarks and sell them as stock photos, what do you make? 5-25 cents a sale? (if sold?).

Biff,

I know someone who has worked for those guys here in DC, he got paid and worked for them several times. SO I don't think its actually a scam, but it is a low number. Then again if you go out and get 10 shots that you were going to shoot anyway and make 100 bucks for them whats the harm.

Not a scam but certainly a bad deal. If you shoot stock you get to keep the copyright. In the above deal you are shooting on spec (many images may not be selected) and any they do select you are selling them the copyright for just $10. That means they can use it anyway they wish forever all for $10.

Honestly, landmarks of my city? They can have the photos. If I want, I can go shoot it again, but really, would I? Anyway, I sent them an email. No reply yet.

Having been born and raised in Milwaukee and lived there for more than 45 years, I'm very familiar with its history, etc. Unfortunately, I moved to New England 15 years ago, so there goes that opportunity.

As far as money is concerned, it would be an easy way to get some easy cash for simply clicking the shutter. Since they are looking to get raw images only, the only post processing needed would be to delete the ones you don't like. In short, it would be a great way for someone of Medicare age like myself to make some income on the side.

"Never tell people how to do things. Tell them what to do and they will surprise you with their ingenuity." General George S Patton, Jr 1885-1945
