It'll come as no surprise to most of you that the Sigma 50/1.4 isn't the world's most reassuring lens when it comes to hitting focus.

After a few months on my 5Dc, I've had enough and want to sell for similar length large aperture prime for walkaround/street photography duties. I guess between 35 and 85 would be acceptable but probably the wider end would be better.

My budget is whatever I can sell it for in GBP, which I imagine is around £250 if I'm lucky, and I'll add another £100-200 for the right glass.

The Canon 50s are cheap and plastic and the 50/1.2 is way out of the price range. Either side of the range I have a 24TSE and a 135/2, so somewhere between those.

Recommendations?

A Canon 85 f1.8 would work nice on the 5d. If you are willing to spend on something more but wider I would suggest the new Canon 35 f.2 IS. If I wasn't in the hunt for a macro lens it would be my next purchase.

There's no such thing (ATM on canon) as a good 50 prime. But the canon 50 1.4 seems well regarded and within your budget. I don't like 35 for street but the IS does look pretty sweet. The 85 is rather close to your 135.

Play around at stores with the 50mm 1.4, and get yourself a sharp copy.

Looks like Canon is going to release a refresh of the 50s (canon rumors) so you may want to wait until we have some concrete news.

I'd give the Canon 35F2 non IS a try. I sold my 50mm for that and like the FL much better
