1. This little orb weaver (about 4mm) has been living in a Sago Palm near our back door for a while. This was taken a month ago.

Last week I saw a smaller spider crawling around on the web, without being attacked. I thought maybe it was a youngster, and didn't think much more about it.

2. Today I went out and saw something white in the web, and initially thought it was a small moth that had been snared. Upon closer inspection, it looks like the Orb Weaver is an expecting mother.

3. I noticed the smaller spider, which I now believe to be the father, hanging out 6" away. I couldn't get a decent shot of him, let alone one that included them both. I went back a while later and found that he had joined her near their future brood.

Great story well told with those shots. Daddy better be careful - mum's a cannibal by choice.

Yeah, it'll be interesting to see how long he lasts.

nice documentary, the pictures are good, but I don't find that species particularly photogenic. But the light is good and shows the spider details :)

Well, they can't all be jumpers and wolfies ;)

Excellent set Moose.

I disagree with them being photogenic. I love the patterns on the back, and you have captured a soft looking texture to the hair (sharpening makes it look spiny on my shots!).
