...using manual power setting on camera and is it actually changing the power setting on the flash itself? I want to use a manual trigger on my 580 EX IIs using the flash sync port to meter the flash at different power settings. With my Odins this does not work because to odin will only send the manual settings to the flash when the transmitter fires the flash.Even in manual the Odin sends out a preflash wich will confuse a light meter. I just wonder if the YN-622C would work for this type of scenario? I want to be able to remotely control power on my flashes in manual and I need to be able to meter the manual flash so I need a way to trigger the flash at various manual power settings.

There is no preflash with the 622s when used in manual mode from the camera's menu. You can meter manual flash simply by pressing the test button on the master 622. You can also select which group to test fire from the master.

So firing the test button fires the flash at the power it is set at? Do you know if the trigger is actually changing the power on the flash itself or just sending a signal to the flash at the time the transmitter fires? I assume group A, B and C are available if I use manual flash. Is that correct? I would have to carry my camera around then to have the transmitter attached to the camera in order to push the test button in the scenario if I did not have another person to help out.

The test button does fire the flash at the set power. If you have a spare 622, you can test fire the flash(es) from your metering position; you don't have to have the camera and master in hand.

Available groups (A, B, C) conform to Canon's optical wireless protocol plus a few extra goodies. The 622s simply convert Canon's system to radio.

CliveyBoy's guide provides a lot of information about the triggers:

The test button fires all flashes in the test group (A, B, C or combined) at the power level they were last fired.

The changing settings are shown on each display (Class 1 flashes).

There are three firing groups as well as three test groups.

You can use a hand/pocket 622 for test purposes. You need to have the camera with you if you want tp change settings on the spot.

I am puzzled by "using the flash sync port to meter the flash". What are you trying to achieve?

PS See the TOYUG link in my signature.

I was going to put a CyberSync trigger on the flash as well so I could fire it from the CC but I am going to be using a Sekonic meter to meter both flashes and Einstein strobes. This is for use outside so the CC meter is not that useful. If I can use a 622 in hand to meter any group A,B or C that should work for me. i was trying to avoid having to change flash power levels on the flash unit because a couple of the flashes will not be convenient to access once they are set up. This sounds like it will work. PW are not an option they have to many problems with the 580 EX II flashes.

Cam1 + 622C (and Cam2 + 622C)
two sets 622C + 580EXII
622C + cable + Einstein
622C on necklace

Note - only the 622C on camera can change manual power levels remotely. The 622C itself has no human interface for doing so.

A 622C under the 580EXII can also drive a pc-sync device.

See p.18 - Group Indicators in TOYUG.
