It's a lovely pose and great job for a first time. If it were mine I would increase exposure somewhat and maybe take clarity down a little if you shot in RAW.

Adorable! Those cheeks are the cutest things. I love the simplicity of it and the pose with the baby all "boneless chickeny" and snoozy is perfect. If "boneless chickeny" isn't a word, it should be. love this image. Well done.

I prefer the first. The second's beckground over powers the baby. Maybe it is just the colors? there is a warmth in the blanket of the first that is missing in the second.

I like dark contrast pictures, but all the newborn pictures are always very pale, and pinkish.

Very cute picture, and subject too, congrats.

Second edit is much better. I personally like newborn images to be bright and cheerful. DOF is spot on. Excellent job for a first attempt!
