My presence caused some uncertainty at first but in the end everyone relaxed and made it across...must have been at least 8 of the young all told, they just kept popping out of the tall grass at the roads edge. These were surprisingly easy to approach, as is often the case with Ruffed Grouse in my experience. I just approached slowly, pausing whenever they seemed ready to get agitated.
