Even a 1% grade can make a train snort to lift the tonnage, although passenger trains never seem to have much of an issue in that regard.

we have a 0.4 grade hill that can slow a train down by 10-20 mph depending on tonnage at notch 8

its not how you take the picture, its the final result before editing.

Watching trains lifting the tonnage up a grade is one of the best parts of being trackside
