Welcome everyone to the third Powershot-series POTN challenge!

Challenge #3 - Animals

This week's challenge will be something I'm sure we've all taken pictures of: "Animals".

Entries could include animal portraits taken at home, or wild animals in their natural environment. Macro shots of insects will be fine, and you could fit the entire animal in the shot or fill the frame with an interesting detail, even producing some sort of abstract.

All that matters is that the image captures my attention. It could make me "ooh" and "aah", or it could make me stop and say "holy cow!", even though there may be no bovine in sight. ;) Colours of the natural world or beautiful shapes and textures could be some ideas to make me stop and think.

Best of luck to you all. Let the challenge begin!

Post until Monday noon GMT, 30 January 2006

Chloe, my funloving cat, she's resting and being good here, but most of the time she's a little ham!

Canon A610

I took this when I first got the camera so I don't remember the settings. I remember I took it with a high ISO though which explains the noise.

S2 IS, taken quickly with auto while walking at the Los Angeles Arboretum.
I did some minor brightening in photoshop.

As we were walking we saw this peacock, but I honestly didn't know if it was part of the sign or if it was real, until we got up close and he turned his head to have a look at us. Peacocks certainly do have a fine sense of style and advertising.

We have some really nice entries this week! Good work by all who have entered so far. :)

I'm hoping to see a few more entries over the weekend. Go on, show us what you've got! I'm looking forward to judging the entries on Monday! :D

Note for Diminished29:

Where's the cat?! As I remember, it was a really nice image; but I'm not sure if I can consider it for a place in the top three if it's not there at the end of the competition.

Here's hoping you can get the image restored before midday tomorrow. :)
