Hi.

I use a laptop and Lightroom, DPP and Photoshop elements with some plugins to process my raw images and to work on tiffs before converting to jpeg, and that's great.

But while traveling I like to also leave the laptop at home and just bring my camera and phone and the ipad. And I'll sometimes just shoot in Jpeg to avoid spending a ton of time processing.

I have found and purchased quite a few photo-editing apps that are great. Right now I can rotate freely, crop, clone, heal, smooth, sharpen, and even reduce noise with my various apps. I even have apps that will do layers.

There's just one thing I cannot find that I really need: sliders for each individual color.

The apps I currently have can adjust saturation and hue, but will only work on the photo as a whole. I've yet to find what photoshop and Lightroom have: a slider for each color.

I realize that Lightroom has a huge amount of colors, and I won't be able to find that, but the basics wod be nice: red, yellow, green, blue, magenta.

Any suggestions? Does it even exist?

Thanks

Thank you. bw!

Mike, are you sure you even want to bother with using an iPad for editing? You'll probably end up redoing everything when you get in front of your PC with LR anyway.

The iPad has an uncalibrated screen, horrible touch screen resolution (capacitive screen) for using brushes, pen, etc, is underpowered and has no real file system. To me right now the only real option for having something close to iPad sized that will work reasonably well for photo editing is the Lenovo Helix, which uses both touch and Wacom pen input. Unfortunately it is bigger than an iPad and way more expensive. However, when my iPad dies (looks like it's getting close) this is probably what I'll replace it with.

I agree wholeheartedly with that statement. The iPad is nice for viewing images but really stinks for doing any meaningful editing. That being said I did buy Photoshop for the iPad and is OK but not spectacular like its native product is. I hardly ever edit anything on my iPad.

My life is like one big RAW file....way too much post processing needed.

So what are you suggesting to Mike? He has the iPad and wants to just use it while travelling...he's looking for more color controls, you say you have Photoshop for the iPad, are there other apps that give you good latitude for colors?

Yeah, it's common for people to respond with "why do you want to do that..."

Like I mentioned before, I already use Lightroom, photoshop and other applications on my laptop and desktop. But I actually enjoy doing light and fun editing on my iPhone and ipad.

I was just wondering if there's an app with sliders for individual colors so I can adjust saturation, hue, and lightness. That's all.

Thank you. bw!

Snapseed by Google/Nik is a good one, it has Nik's u-point selective editing, and is very easy to use.

I find Photoshop Touch to be pretty good, although it wont run on the iPad1 if you have that.
Its very cut down but does have some good, familiar features IMO.

There is also talk of Adobe bringing something that resembles LR to the iPad, but thats a bit of a way off yet i believe.

Ive seen some great images created on the iPad, using just fingers and stylus. I know a couple of graphic artists that use them to sketch out ideas, and im blown away with what they can achieve.

I should just mention one thing, the iPad really doesn't like images larger than 14mp, or a bit over 2x the retina screen's resolution (4096x3072), if the image is bigger than that, the iPad will automatically scale the image and it will look bad. The precise aspect ratio doesn't matter, it could be 6000 pixels wide, but so long as it's under 14mp total, it won't scale.

Also, don't use Dropbox, because then the images will be downsampled to 2mp.

The only way to import photos bigger than the standard limit is to use the iPhoto iPad app, which, to my knowledge, allows up to 19mp resolution.

So the short of it is - if you're shooting with the intention of copying the photos straight to the iPad, make sure to set the right shooting resolution, on a 5D3 you would set M Jpeg, for example. Or look into the iPhoto app, if your camera is under 19mp.

Im pretty sure if you use a different front end for Drop Box, like Files Pro for example, the resolution is kept intact.

Maybe, but many people also likely use the default DB app, and it does scale images. Just saying.

Yep, it does indeed, thats why i use Files Pro instead. In fact you dont even need the DB app to use this.

Just saying ;-)a

Thank you, friends, for the info. I'll grab those apps and have at it.

I don't use Dropbox. I use smugmug to store jpegs. I shoot raw and jpegs, sometimes together and sort through that way, but I don't keep raw files. I toss them after processing.

I don't do anything professional and have no aspirations to develop into a professional of any kind. I just do it for fun.

Thanks again. I'll check out those apps and touch base.

Thank you. bw!

Good luck.
I dont think its about the best, just what works best for the individual.
Working on the iPad can be frustrating, so finding something that might be quite basic compared to something else, but YOU find it nice and easy to use is what matters.
