You could have a point about the $125 lenses...I know that I'd be hesitant to buy more EOS-M lenses for much more than that if I knew they weren't going to progress the EOS-M line at all.

Should be an interesting few months when it comes to the future of the EOS-M, I'm sold on it for $300, and it'll get plenty of use to justify the price. But at $500 or over I would have never considered it.

Wow, this is crazy, and unexpected! (though I admit, some people did say this was what was going to happen, I did not believe it.)

I hope "they" are wrong and Canon continue to update the M line in he US.
It seems Canon just got the ingredients correct now with the AF on the new 70D sensor,. they just have to price it right.
It doesn't have top be $300.00 to sell, but they have to avoid $800.00 as well IMHO. $800.00 remains solid DSLR territory. IMHO $450.00 $500.00 with a kit lens woudl sell fine.

It can be $800 MSRP if it is a high end unit. The NEX 7 and NEX 6, OM-D and Fuji XE-1 all sell great at $700-1000. The current M was a very entry level camera, more like a NEX-3N or an Olympus E-PL5, which were $500 MSRP.

Honestly more like the first gen mirrorless bodies. Thus the problem. A camera with the functionality of the E-PL5 with an APS-C sensor and Canon stamped on it would have absolutely rocked and been a huge success imo.

I wonder if this means the same "entrepreneurs"* that are trying to sell their $60.00 printers for $200.00 in the market place will be selling EOS M for $500.00 soon...

Still not at $800, though. And then there is the problem of lens selection. They at least need a superzoom or telephoto and portrait prime before people are going to consider them a complete system worthy of dropping some significant coin on.

A couple more lenses and a true higher end body like a NEX-6 or XE-1 and I think they could sell at $999 MSRP with a lens.

I agree. You need some good basic lenses, and a roadmap of what's to come. I think Fuji has done pretty well in that regard. Even though m4/3s fans always point to Fuji's lack of lenses, the fact is that what Fuji offers is very good quality and pretty good options for a vast majority of users. If only Sony would have done as well with e-mount options.

Would never buy a mirrorless Like the NEX 7 for the money they want. However, I think the EOS M is a handy little camera to have when I don't want to carry my 6D or 7D (like on the streets of certain cities here and abroad). Just went ahead and ordered the little zoom lens as I'm afraid they'll run out of them soon. Did not want to spend the money right now, but after reading what you all have posted here, don't want to risk not getting it.

Just don't want to spend a lot of money on a small camera.

I've met a videographer at a recent wedding. He worked for Canon Service. He told me that there will be a new EOS M coming soon as well as a replacement for the 430EX II. Not sure how much of these is true.

I don't think it's a big enough discount to be concerned. It's certainly not as much of a discount as the M kit.

It's all speculation at this point obviously.

the fact they're not selling their newest announced lens(the 11-22mmIS) in the US makes me wonder if this is just going to be something they sell overseas...

the camera really didn't do well here, but maybe it did ok in other parts of the world

If they sell the 11-22 IS overseas somebody like B&H will bring them in as grey market.

Have they done that before? I don't remember the exact model, but there was a point and shoot super zoom that wasn't sold in the US, and B&H didn't sell it

And if they were going to offer it, why wouldn't they have it now...people have the lens already

Yes, they do all the time, but they can't sell evrything.

Don't forget that if the 11-22 lens is imported here by B&H or Adorama, Canon USA does not see/get the sales from those lenses. Same goes for any imported lens from Nikon, Canon or other manufacturer.
