Swung by Punchbowl Falls about a week ago. Surprised (and happy) to find it still flowing strong this late into the summer. A lot of the other falls that are quite impressive during the Spring are barely trickling now.

Great shot Robert! The falls and green colors just jump. This is definitely on my to-do list and I'm wondering how fall colors would look there. How was the trail in? I've just heard the water is pretty deep on the hike in.

I have never been in the Fall Rick. The trail was fine, a little over two miles.

When you say you you "heard the water is pretty deep on the hike in" it makes me wonder if you are thinking of the Oneonta Gorge?

The water in the river can get relatively deep in the Spring, but you don't hike through it like you do at Oneonta.

Ah, I think you're right. I knew one of those spots had waist/chest deep water that required wadding to get to. That puts this shot a little higher on my list, lol. Really great shot.

Yup, the waist high wade is at Oneonta. We hiked down it, but the light was wack and it was overflowing with people.

I was there about three months ago and the wade was neck high right past the log jam, which is not the deepest part.

Punchbowl is on the Eagle Creek Trail, you should definitely check it out.

You did a beautiful job with this. I was there last week and found poor lighting, so didn't come away with such a good result.

Thanks Stan, we were there last week too. There was a gentleman there from Florida when I was there; that wasn't you by any chance was it? It was a dad with his son and daughter.

nicely done, Robert! Punch Bowl is on my bucket list, for sure... i thought you had to stand in the creek at Punch Bowl to get that angle though? i'd love to get Oneonta as well, but wading through chest deep ice-water and trying to keep thousands of dollars worth of gear dry just seems like a bad idea to me...

Beauty of a shot, Robert! Is this down in the Gorge somewhere?

Beautiful shot! Punchbowl was one of the highlights of my trip there this past spring. Oneonta was neck deep, and very cold in May. I know because I fell in trying to boulder by on the side rocks.

In spring your deffinately in the creek; right now you can boulder hop pretty easily and stay dry.

Thank you and yes, this is in the Gorge, along the Eagle Creek Trail.

I was there early May and decide it was too deep as well. Right now its totally doable.

Couldn't have been me, Robert, since I'm no gentleman :o and I was there with my BIL only. We were there Monday (7/22), a little later than desired, and the light was hitting the right side pretty hard. Made it difficult to get a good shot, but I enjoyed working my way down stream a ways. Metlako was even worse.

You were there the day before we were. I rolled out of camp about 3am so that I could get to the falls before sunrise and before the harsh light hit. This was my third try at Punchbowl; I wasn't prepared for the flow one time and then didn't have the lens I wanted to shoot with (telephoto) the next.
