Hi all,

I've been experimenting with better methods to shoot my G9 lately. I was wonder whether anyone else has tried shooting just in Jpeg? I found setting My Colors to Neutral helps make PP easier and better in something like Picasa, so I can get very good results without much fuss. I'm also using a one month free trial of the new DxO Optics Pro 8 to see how simple and quick it can let me process Jpeg (and Raw) images. I like it so far, but using my G9 in Neutral colors, and also using full Manual exposure is giving me some great results in Jpeg only. Here's just one example of a Superfine Jpeg processed in Dxo Optics. I got about the same result using just Picasa, but the Dxo is somewhat better for now.

Here's another I took earlier today, and processed in DxO from a Jpeg.

We will be traveling to a big family reunion this week, so I want to find the best and easiest method to take pics without a lot of extra effort to do the PP. I like the small size of the G9, but I realize it needs to be used at low ISOs to get the best results. I think using My Colors in P and Vivid makes the results too blotchy or over-colored for my tastes. While Neutral gives me latitude to improve the overall result in PP.

Thanks, Ron. I guess not too much interest in the "older" cameras on here. If it's not the latest/greatest, then ho-hum? I probably need to hang out in a forum that is actually in to just taking photos, rather than a hardware related forum.

Well for me this is the ideal place for you to post these pics. Great stuff. Personally I am still loving my g10 even though my time is now divided between it and m43

don't be discouraged if no one gives thoughts to your images. Maybe it's your images or topic that is uninteresting.

If photography has taught you anything, its to view things from different perspectives.

Personally, I don't think your images or post are interesting, but wanted to give you light on the fact you need to think about different perspectives.

Thanks for sharing your perspective. I think on this particular forum, it's really just a "gear-head" orientation...what's the latest camera out in the G series, and how does the camera perform?

I did find interest in my two images above over on the Nature & Landscapes threads, where folks are posting such types of shots. However, everyone over there seems to be the DSLR crowd, so the "little" G series is an also-ran.

I am having fun re-discovering the joys of my G9, so it's time for me to move on from a gear oriented forum, and quit wondering why folks no longer are interested in what a G9 (or even my G11) can do.

Nope. I tried a few there a while back and no real responses. Same with G11 images.

Another "unusual" change I've made is I am using a Clearviewer on the G9 so the LCD can be used like a large EVF. It of course makes using it in bright sunshine much easier. It has the premium lens and the Hama camera screw with a large knurled knob for easy on/easy off. It has changed the way a I use the G9, and increased my interest in using it.

The crowd over there isn't uniform. I'm there with a G15, and I found your images interesting. I take more interest in the esthetics of an image than in the optics and electronics that went into making it.

Gear doesn't matter. It's all about images. Finding them. Understanding light. Making images that suit our intended use.

I look to Flickr links for inspiration. Other sources too. I find photographers in the g forum are inspiring. S cameras too.
I started a G15 image thread.
In spite of that I keep looking at new gear. An Oly OMD followed me home. So did a N1V1. No G15, because I liked the G9 so much. Longer lens suited me. It's a great camera. I have considered the Nikon altnative. Several times. I like images from the G series better.

Denis hope our paths keep crossing. Be happy with the images you make.

The G9 is a fantastic camera and the resulting pictures joyful to look at. There is newer tech available but in the end it is the user to create pleasing images. Enjoying the tools even if older is the fun as well. :D
