This was a race, that the person I was covering it for, the location was at least half the story...

Really liked #3 but could be cropped a bit, but the rest looks like a bunch of snapshots fired by uncle Oscar and his new camera. In your galleries you have lots of good sports photos. What happened with this set?

I like the set. I myself am training for the Chicago Blackhawks 5K. But you have a much better venue to run in.

Well full admission, I've been completely and utterly lost with shooting distance running.

With track and field there's some aerobatics with the jumping and throwing and short races are usually pretty close so I can see and understand the peak action, but distance running just has me lost.

I went searching before shooting the first 5k, and basically the only advice I found was look up user X's photos; which I did and all I pulled away was over precessed (bulk tone mapping), most of their images lacked even any faces. My first 5k photo thread didn't return any responses: https://photography-on-the.net …/showthread.php?t=1308222 So with zero feedback there, didn't feel I learned all that much from the experience.

With this event the focus was heavy on location, with the thread linked above, I mainly went seeking the emotion and faces. And that may very well make the difference between decent and crap. And what's furthering the challenge as far as peak action goes, is that the main person I'm trying to cover has just started and ends up in 3000th place out of 6800.

If you've got advice, or a good source to point me to that would be great.

I must have missed the other thread, but I think long distance running is hard to shoot too. I have tried it a few times but the only thing I found was trying to look for joy, pain or interaction between people. Maybe set things in a context or find the ones standing out in the crowd. My last attempt ended like this :

From your other post:

THAT is a running image.

It depends upon what you're aiming to capture at the event. The 'run' or the 'party'. Caution though if you're shooting the crowd having fun as your photos better be real different if they aren't going to get lost in a sea of iPhone shots taken by everybody and their 6 family members. Just say'n. ;)

Agreed. There are some others that I like and would have put on here. Were they just running inside the stadium, if so that makes it more difficult ?
I prefer the ones from the first race.

Photos from my first 5k run (so i'm not an expert !)

The marathon runs over the bridge and past the Arctic Cathredal 2 times and is the most popular landmark along the course. Been to Tromsø?

Yes, for work. Mostly passing through. I like the local beer and eating at Skarven ;)

Beer must be stupidly expensive for you in Tromsø. Lived 4 years up North in England and eating and drinking out was dead cheap compared to Norway. Been other places in the area?
