Wow-what a beautiful little bird. Certainly a contrast from the Ruby-throat that I have here. Nicely detailed, Jo. If you can get a few more shots, would love to see them.

They are beautiful, Jo. Great shots too. One of several US/ Canadian species I wish we had over here.

Jo
Those are some fantastic shots.

I Know the 400 5.6 has a pretty long min focus distance (like 11ft or something).
Have you tried some extention tubes to get the MFD down to 6ft or less. That way you can fill the frame with them and not have to crop?

My buddy chris did this with his 500 f4 and it works well.
He just has the inexpensive Opteka (i think) tubes. Like $100 or less if you find them on a deal.

Im not taking away from your shots. They are great. I just was letting you (and others) know of another option.

Hey Jeremy, you know I was browsing CL yesterday and found a Kenko extension tube on sale, at a good price too! I might buy it :) Do you know if IQ will suffer with the extension tube? Thanks!

Oh, there you go again with your Hummers!! Two beautiful shots, Jo. Love the natural setting with the flower.
