Just a question....

I don't shoot in RAW yet but I am doing some test shots tonight.

Can I just shoot in RAW and download it to Photoshop 7 or do I need some other type of software??

I'm using a G5.... Thanks;)

No, I'm afraid you can't. Adobe did at one time sell a RAW plug-in for PS 7, but it was discontinued long ago.
You can use the software that was bundled with your camera to create a tif file and then bring it into PS for further editing. Or you can use the free Raw Shooter Essentials in the same way. Or you can purchase one of the several commercial RAW converters available. One final option is to upgrade to PS Creative Suite in which the RAW conversion is intregal.

OK......nother question:

I create a Tif and edit it in PS and then I'm done..........Do I "save as" a Tif or a JPEG or ?? I want the best quality I can keep.
I usually do the JPEG optimizer which compresses it so I'm losin alot of info as it is now.

If you are going to go back and do more editing in PS, save as a tiff or psd. If you are going to print it or present it on the web, save it as a jpeg.

I got all that..........The problem is I can't get the Tif to look good at all, it very pixely. My JPEG's look awesome! Must be something I'm doing???

Regardless of file format, you will need to view at 25%, 50%, or 100% to avoid anti-aliasing or jagged lines. The only other thing I can think of is that you are saving at some resolution other than the default.

Both at 100%.........JPEG looks great but the Pre-editing Tif is terrible and anything I do to smooth it out or sharpen it makes it worse??
