I may be wrong but the top is plastic material for the wi-fi signal and the bottom is magnesium alloy. I dont think any camera is 100% weather sealed, but i have used my 5d iii in the light rain, on a beach with wet and sandy hands and in the snow with no issues. I am not saying go and try that, but I am sure it can handle a bit of raindrops. Something I noticed on this site is someone mentioned about the directional button on the right, if you move in a certain direction you can see a circuit board or some electronics. So I would watch for that.

Aug 01, 2013 01:30 | #4 It is not as weather sealed as the 5D3 or 1D bodies. Poster above (post #2) is correct, however that is more to the build vs the weather sealing, which would be gaskets/seals/o-rings installed in areas where water can get through, such as buttons, dials, etc. There is a diagram available somewhere that details the location of these weather sealing elements on the 6D and one for the 5DIII. Maybe someone will post it. Sirrith Cream of the Crop More info | Aug 01, 2013 01:49 | #5 The 6D is sealed better than the 5DII, but not quite as well as the 5DIII. Notably, there seems to be a lack of sealing on the rear control dial "set" button, the mode dial, and the shutter button. Here's a photo of a diagram in a 6D promo booklet I was given by Canon HK: -Tom

As a crit racer, I prefer racing in the rain than in the dry. For one thing, anyone who is skittish or questionable on the bike usually doesn't show up, so everyone out there has a clue. 2nd, I'm not sure why, but I win a lot of races in the rain. I'm very conservative with my cornering on wet roads, but I still pull it together somehow -- thinking the rain keeps me cooler, so I'm able to retain my punch for the finish. Crashes are also less painful, since you slide so well. The first hit doesn't remove as much skin, and you kind of spread out the pain a bit and get shallower road rash. Awesome =D Rain is what separates the real talent from the rest after all. Carl

I'd fully expect it to be fairly well sealed, but not weatherproof unless openly stated. Are our expectations so low? Simply click on the Canon site for some insight. Even some consumer type SLRs are getting weather sealed nowadays. The 70D is stated to be as sealed as an EOS1N...I do wish a high quality illustration would be featured for this issue. I hope i am not violating any rules, by offering the following quotes instead of links. All quotes from Canonusa site for the 6D. "Compact and lightweight body with shutter durability tested up to 100,000 cycles, enhanced dust and weather resistance, and EOS Integrated Cleaning System for improved vibration-based dust removal." "Working Temperature Range 32-104°F/0-40°C Working Humidity Range 85% or less" He means that you should treat your camera as if it has none, since canon will void the warranty if they find moisture inside. This means getting a rain cover for it. Past Equipment | My Personal Gallery

I was able to shoot, but not change settings or review images. The image review button turned on live view instead, and scrolling through menus happened on its own. Similar thing happened to me today, seems the set button is a weak spot. Hopefully it'll be good after a while to dry. Canon 5D Mark III - Leica M240
