Rain or shine man!

Down here in Florida it's liable to rain or monsoon at any time, especially during the summer, and if races are scheduled then races are on!

85% or less"

I find this odd because the humidity would be higher that 85% if it is raining.

No, I never claimed to be outstanding in the field of photography. I said I was out standing in the field taking photos.

+1 True in every place that has bike races. This isn't golf or baseball.

It should be fine; mine has been since then;
Might be worth getting a rain cover anyway, 6D or 7D.

It's already fine. Had a few hours to dry.
Importantly the weather sealing kept water out of both LCDs, out of the mirror box and viewfinder. Which saves the camera. Seems the d-pad however lacks enough protection.

Looking at the diagram though, only the aperture wheel is protected. The d-pad lacks weather sealing. Which would explain what happened.

So boys and girls, the moral of the story is you can shoot the 6D in the rain, however expect the dpad to stop functioning properly when wet. And the 17-40mm lens I was using, had absolutely no issues with a UV filter on.

Note 7D's weather sealing leaves no button unprotected:

Same with the 5D mark III.

Rubber seals can't do much about condensation.

I think the logic behind 6D's weather seal should be the following. Canon basically says as long as you place a damn plastic bag over the camera if it rains, under reasonable conditions, the camera will be able to handle it. I agree that not putting better rubber seals is a clear practice of destructive market segmentation. Not cool. Not cool.

I have used my 6D in the snow several times, just kept wiping it off.
While it is not weather sealed, I would not do that with my T4i camera at all.
Zero problems, just be sure to keep a dry cloth in your bad.
Rain on the other hand, is not something I would shoot in, with either a 6D or even a 5D III

I had my 5d3 and 6D out to shoot an engagement session in intermittent rain; it would be drizzly then medium rain. Its pretty foggy out here in San Francisco this time of year so its pretty wet outside. I kinda babied the 6D a bit more and wipe it down once in a while, but it did get a good amount of rain on the rear since I had it on my side facing down. Had no issues whatsoever and I would use the D pad to wifi a few photos on my ipad to take a closer look. I had a Sigma 35/1.4 on it and i'm pretty sure its not weather sealed.

My 5d3 however, aint care for no rain

He means that you should treat your camera as if it has none, since canon will void the warranty if they find moisture inside. This means getting a rain cover for it.

Totally agree, you also need an L series lens that is weather resistant to have any protection at all.

Personally I would never use my camera in rain like that period !and at least have a totally water proof jacket on it!

If it stops working and then is left to dry out, and then subsequently, miraculously works, I personally would be just waiting for it to fail!

If you have to shoot in conditions like that - i.e paid to cover an F1 race, etc. then buying a cheap 6D is probably sensible. Think of it as a trow away item or a cost of doing business.

Even if the body has weather sealing, it's not "perfect" protection by a long shot, and the lens probably is NOT sealed at all. Luminous Landscape has a series of reports from trips to Antartica describing significant numbers of failures of PRO cameras (with weather sealing) due to moisture.

Personally, I always use a rain cover in the rain. I've used several covers from Fotosharp that have worked well and are reasonably priced. Lots of testimonials from happy customers, including pros, on their website.

I just searched that now, and I'm seeing the 1D bodies as surviving, but some with error messages. The one with a lot of failures was the 5D2, which I'd say is "pro," but maybe not "PRO." ;)

Just returned from a trip to Costa Rica's rain forests, where I kept my 6D carefully protected from the rain, but to no avail. In the humidity, several of the controls stopped working altogether, and some buttons worked only some of the time. The Canon 70-300 lens worked beautifully. But even 10 days after returning, the camera is still not fully operational. Has anyone tried reloading the firmware?
