Hi all,

I've been working with my single globe warm desktop halogen for some years now and been wanting to upgrade to something more appropriate for image editing on my Dell 27' display. My editing room has vertical blinds to stop most natural light entering, but I do most of my editing at night, thus the warm halogen is firstly a bit dull and secondly a little warm for accurate colour representation.

6500K is the light temp I understand is the best ambient light temp to be lighting your room with as it is the closest to midday sunlight. I'll be looking for a lamp that can replicate that. I also would prefer LED and maybe a dimmer and light temp variable adjustment if possible.

[For early readers, midday sun temp can vary depending on cloud cover and even time of year. Essentially, it's best to stick to a known standard]

So I throw it out to the community:

Can you recommend and or do you use a particular desk lamp for editing?

If so which one and why?

Regards,

Wayne.

I am a big fan of Ottlite products. Not sure if they are available worldwide, but I use their daylight bulbs in my office. I have a floor light, desk light and an overhead light by them. They appear to have a new LED lighting option. http://www.ott-lite.com/ (external link)

Thank for the lead. I have a big wide desk so may go for the longer lamp they offer.

More leads from others would be appreciated.

Must be some quality lamps out there somewhere.

I just ordered one of these (to replace my heat-generating halogen desk lamp) and was wondering if I should replace the A19 bulbs in my ceiling light fixture as well? I currently have Philips A19 LED bulbs (60w equivalent) which are daylight 5000K with CRI of 80. Or is this desklamp powerful enough so that I don't need to use the ceiling lights? I was told that the BlueMax 70W is the equivalent of a 300W halogen lamp.

What a mistake! Horrible lamp. Components misaligned, finish had blemishes and scratches, base wobbled like crazy, and it generated a tremendous amount of heat (the customer sales rep told me it generated virtually no heat) making it a challenge to adjust once it was on for a while.
