So if you ever do anything to a part of your shot - like blur the background, or sharpen only the edges - then a layer mask is very, very useful. You can take my 100-400 L away when you pry it from my cold, dead fingers.

Check out the Help files, by hitting F1, and typing "layer mask" into the search bar. You will find a ton of info there. Once you kind of understand what's going on, search the forum for the same phrase, and see how they've been used.

It's sort of like using the eraser tool, without actually erasing anything, so you can always go back to make changes later. Works in Levels, Curves, & other Tools, too. I'd be lost without them!
