Pokey LaFarge (7.31.13)

Saw this guys latest vinyl LP at a local shop and thought he had a real interesting look. Like he was straight out of the 1930's or 40's. Then I found out he was playing a local club here and jumped on the chance to shoot him. Turns out his music is very good too. His latest album is on Third Man Records which I'm a fan of and he just did an appearance on David Letterman a few weeks ago.

The lighting at this club is usually very bad but I thought the shots turned out okay. Just wish I had more variety. Pretty much everything here was shot with my 70-200L MKII

Nice. The B&W is my fave since it fits his retro look, plus that sideways glance...

Pokey is a local favorite here in St. Louis. I still haven't been to see him with his "South City Three" band, but I caught him a few times back in the day when he was a member of the Hackensaw Boys (out of Virginia).

Another trivia fact: Pokey and his band play a group of musicians in the new Lone Ranger movie. It's not anywhere near as bad of a flick as some have made it out to be.

Lovely shots, guy reminds me of Hank Williams crossed with John Cale, very interesting look indeed.
