Well priced for a 27", wouldn't you say? Has good ratings at Newegg .. Currently working with an off brand 20", I'm quite tempted.

To me, the downside of this monitor is the resolution.

hmmm .... I've been at full HD for so long, I never considered going better than that. Wonder if WQXGA is worth the $140 difference ..

Well, that's a matter of personal preference. You'd be getting 1.7x more area for 2.8x more price.
I have a friend with the monoprice monitor, and it's awesome.

You wont' go back to "full-HD" once you use a 2560x1440 monitor. I picked up one very similar to the monoprice one last year and have been very happy. I've even considered a second one but I may wait until 4k becomes more readily available.

I have the same panel as the Monoprice one, just Korean-branded. It's gorgeous.

I rotate between a 27" iMac, Retina MBP, and my work machine. The Monoprice panel never leaves me feel wanting.

You would want to go larger than 1080 if you want to use it as a computer monitor. For example: 2560 x 1440 or even 2560 x 1600
It'll render the text much more readable, not to mention the photos

We bought a slightly different model for my cousin from Best Buy. It's good for watching Blu Rays, or streaming Netflix or YouTube. She doesn't do anything with graphics or high end gaming, so she didn't need anything with higher resolution. I would go with a higher resolution for myself.
