This is my first nature shot. Please advise on how to improve it...

The first thing you should really do is reduce the largest dimension to 800 pixels - that's the forum guideline that everyone must follow.

You have a striking shot here with beautiful, vivid color and the primary subject stands out very well and is separated reasonably well from the clutter of secondary subjects.

From the standpoint of cropping and framing, I would suggest that at least the primary subject have his feet on the ground. I always prefer to see the subject in its entirety - not cut off at the knees. It seems to give a little better balance to the overall composition for things to have a foundation - a place to stand - gives it better stability.

Nice contrast. You could even use photoshop to make it even more vivid. And I'd try to include the feet as well. either that, or crop the legs off. the way its framed now kind of looks like there is something missing from the picture (ie the legs).


A560 will have to do... for now :confused:

It's a lovely shot with great colour and lines (curves). But it's a shot that's been done many times before. Maybe try a tighter from on the head and neck- this would make for an interesting composition. That said, I would be happy to have taken this shot myself.
