Hi Gang
My business POS software will only run on XP because of the database support it utilizes. I would like to buy a new laptop and dual boot XP. Is there any reason XP will not run on a new machine?

Thanks much for the input.

PS: This will be a notebook. I'd also like to be able to use it for tethered shooting. Any thoughts on best screen type, ect. Budget $400 to $600.

XP should run fine on a new machine. Not sure of your uses, but I would run XP in a virtual machine if possible. Since the XP end of life is coming up soon, running it virtually would minimize your Internet exposure on it.

Hey Seth, thanks for chiming in. I went ahead and upgraded from Win7 Home Premium to Professional and I'm now running XP Mode. Works like a champ.

Realize that you can run Windows 7, but run individual programs in Compatibility Mode (i.e. XP Service Pack 3).

The issue is with Btrieve in my accounting program, there is something in Vista and prior OS's that it needs to function. Thanks for taking the time to opine though.

There should be no issues running XP on a new box. My work machine (from Lenovo early
this year) is an i7-3770 with an SSD running only XP, and it works find.

Interesting. I've got a Lenovo on it's way, but XP Mode as opposed to dual boot is going to be the ticket.

thaks
