You might want to try it sometimes. It looks different. More "active" vs "passive", lines leading "in" vs "out", etc.
Not that you should mirror images at random, but it's good to be aware of, for instance so you can use it when posing people ;)

For portraits, I'd be hesitant to flip, because a face is never symmetrical. People might like a mirrored image of themselves better though. But it will be visible to others, even if they don't "know" why.
