I went out to the 127 yard sale after work today just to kill some time until the girlfriend got off and ended up finding a booth full of old film cameras and hunting paraphernalia. Got to poking around the little booth and found this Contax RTS which had a Yashica 35mm F2.8 on it at the time that had a broken filter stuck to the lens.

The guy working the booth came over and said he would take $30 for "that one" I thought hey that's not half bad. I had been wanting to grab a few old MF lenses just to try them out, so I thought this would be a good opportunity. I told him that sounded good to me, gave the gentleman my $30(only had cash on me because I gave a bachelor party a tour out at the distillery today and got tipped $40.) He said "here I think that one had a bag with it" Grabs a red leather case with Contax on the front and says "everything goes together" I looked into the bag real quick saw there were 2 other lenses and a flash unit, so I'm even more stoked at this point. Shake the fellas hand and walk away.

Didn't look at the other lenses until I got back to my house. They were both 50's one was another Yashica F1.7 the other was this.

I just about crapped my pants when I found it.

Anyways long story short I had a good day and am looking for an adapter to get the new lenses working on my 6D. Does anyone have a recommendation on a good solid adapter? AF confirm would be nice but build quality is my main concern. I don't mind paying a little more for solid build especially since I got everything else so cheap.

Sorry about the novel I just wrote.

Congratulations! What a wonderful find.

I use this adapter on a few C/Y lenses and it seems fine.

Awesome. I wish I had that kind of luck! You know the mega-millions are above 300 million right now... might be a good time to buy a ticket ;)

I like the Fotodiox chipped C/Y adapters from Amazon myself. I have two and both work great, cost $30 each.

I like FotoDiox adapters. What I do is to look at Fotodiox has to offer to figure the right adapter, then I buy if through Amazon.

Nicely done! I'm waiting for a great deal like that to come my way. Shoot some film with the RTS if it still works. I loved that camera back in the day as I was a Contax SLR shooter.

Nice find! Shoot some film through that RTS. I still love my Yashica FX-3 Super 2000 bodies.

I use the Fotodiox C/Y-Eos adapter with focus confirmation....the chip doesn't work with all bodies though.

When released in 1975 the first model of RTS (which you have there) was one of the best 35mm film cameras money could buy. I used to have the RTSII, which replaced it in 1982 and loved it. You'll probably need to attend to the light seals (the black sponge stuff around the rear door and mirror box) on a body that old if you want to use it. Try touching it with your finger and if it's sticky it needs replacing.

In any case, the Planar 50/1.4 for $30 is a superb bargain!

Oddly enough, my dad gave me his RTS last Thursday. Must be something going around...

The camera will definitely need work, but the 1.4 lens looks in good shape. I bought a Fotodiox adapter and will let you know how it goes. Fotodiox has an all-black version on their website that's about 3x what I paid on Amazon for a chrome version. Not sure what the difference is, besides color.

Thanks! I'm stoked, do you find that the manual confirmation is useful? After reading some it seems like a lot of people find it unreliable.

Thanks for the recommendation. It is one of my favorite passtimes as well, it is actually somewhat encouraged at Wild Turkey, they always want you to know what the new products are like.

I was unaware I never really play the lottery but I might look into grabbing a ticket.

I have looked at the Fotodiox stuff a bit now and it looks like a lot of people recommend their product. I have some friends over at the Lexington Amazon that hooked me up with a year of prime for free so I could get free 2 day shipping too.

It was actually some of your pics in the 6D thread that made me first start considering getting some old manual lenses. You have some awesome work.

The camera actually came with some film, it was hella expired, but I think I will load it up with some that I have and shoot a couple rolls while I wait on the adapter. On a side note does anyone know if it can hurt the body to shoot film that expired in the early 2000s? I know it can produce some funky images so if its safe for the camera I might give that a go.

Believe it or not this was actually my first experience with the 127 yardsale, I usually hate the thing it slows my morning commute down by like 10 minutes.

Thanks for the information, I had no idea about how nice the body was until I got home. I just tried touching the light seal, It is what I would discribe as a little oily, not really sticky at all. Where would I look if I wanted to replace it or have the body looked over? Any other things I should look at? This is only my second the first is an old Pentax K1000 that I have used for a couple of classes just to learn about film.

Thanks! let me know how the adapter works. Black would be nice but if chrome is cheaper and still the same its no biggie. Yes the lens seems to be in fantastic shape and I am so pumped about it.

Anything in particular you think I need to check out on the body? to my untrained eye it seems to be in pretty good shape other than some finish rubbing off around where the left thumb would normally sit.

Thanks man, I really appreciate that! As for confirmation, all of my Fotodiox chipped adapters (C/Y and OM) work perfectly on my 6D. Sometimes they throw the metering off on my EOS M, but they never have an issue on my 6D ;)
