I rushed in and ordered a Hitech ND filter kit I believe at that price the quality should be really great and the shots just as good. Does any one have this set and if so please give me an idea of what to kinda expect.

Hitech
62mm Multistop and Warm2Cool Filter Kit

Variable 0.3-1.8 Neutral Density Filter
Variable Color Filter
Extra Wide Design for Wide Angle Use
Schott Superwite Glass and CR-39 Resin
B&H # HIMSW2CP62Mfr # HT62MW2C
Usually ships in 7-14 business days
You Pay: $345.46Free Shipping (USA)

It was an impulse buy but Hoping it to be worth its weight in gold. Going to shoot on boardwalk empire set tonight and tomorrow, now that the crew is back to work. The package should arrive Monday or Tuesday. Any tips please.... thanks

A high price doesn't necessarily mean high quality. I would have thought long and hard before paying $345 for two filters. One of which, at least to me, seems kind of useless.

I would definitely not have spent that much money on those filters. I wouldn't spend any money on them actually. I don't particularly like variable ND's because they are not very usable on wide angles where I use filters the most, and I think most colour filters are just gimmicks since you can reproduce the effect by adjusting white balance.

If you are shooting landscapes with this combo I think you would have been better off with a non vari-nd kit. Any time you begin to go below 35mm focal distance you increase the risk and darkening of the dreaded "X" pattern these filters produce.

Now if you were shooting portraits with a vari-nd then I would go with the one I purchased which is more expensive yet. I tend to shoot portraits in the 50mm-200mm range and the Schneier True Match Vari-ND (external link) is simply mind blowing in that despite using 2 filters there is no noticeable loss in sharpness or color shifting in your images.

The downside of course is that the Schneider is more expensive yet but you get what you pay for in life and I choose to pay just once if I can help it.

OK thanks I guess I will have to see once it arrives. I contacted them and they said that they are returnable as long as no damage to the item occurs. I also had time to think it out most of the night after working out and I went back on and ordered some cheaper filters for 3 of my lenses and I decided that I will do an experiment and test against shots and see which of them are better. I will keep which ever is better who knows maybe I will be lucky and the single inexpensive ones will perform better.

I had hi-tech several years ago and got rid of them due to the horrible color cast. Hopefully they have taken care of that problem.
