I agree it doesn't affect AF, but you're inferring that the image appears OOF in the viewfinder yet in focus in live view. Makes me wonder if your diopter setting is off and that's why live view appears more accurate. I will agree though that live view is nice to be able to zoom in on a certain area of the frame (the eyes for example) and nail the focus on them before shooting. You can't zoom the viewfinder....

There really isn't much in terms of learning making that jump. If anything you'll just need time to adjust to the heavier weight.

Best tip is to just go out and shoot. Get used to the settings of the camera and how you are able to use it.

Dog photos on the 50D? I'll play! Quick JPEG 2 minutes after mounting the new (to me) 135L. Nice combo as long as you have lots of room to back up.
