Hi guys,

This is my first time shooting portraits at home with an umbrella and off camera flash.

The settings were: EOS 7D + 85mm f/1.8@ f/8 - ISO 400 - 1/200s.
The Flash : Speedlite 430EX II @ 1/4 power triggered by 2 Cactus v5.
The Umbrella was about 40° on the right of my brother and at one meter distance.

I think that's it. I didn't really direct him for posing but I like the shots as they are.

1) The composition isn't working for me on this one. Perhaps move down a bit to show the tops of his shoulders?
2) I really like this one. I wouldn't change anything. You and he did great there.

I like both although - as was already mentioned - the top one is cropped a bit tightly. Nice light - noth in the colour and the BW.

Thank you very much for your comments and feedbacks.
I'll take into account the points mentioned and try to improve in my future shots.
Thanks again. :)

#2 looks like a good magazine shot to me. Great tones and pose. Only very minor issue is the background. If it was smooth white it would add more impact to a great shot.

Canon EOS 1000d /60d : 18-55mm IS kit lens. Canon 50mm 1.8 MK2. Tamron 55-200mm F4-5.6, battery grip to make my cam look pro..and 30mm Sigma F1.4 recently added

Thanks Pat.
You're right about the background. I'll try to make it better next time (not easy right now but I'll be working on it ^^)
