Hey guys I am looking for a decently cheap way to get my speedlight firing off camera. I have a continuous lighting kit that I use quite a bit but I am looking to get my setup a bit more portable. I currently only have a 430ex II that I take with me and use for bounce when I can't carry the whole kit, I will probably get another speedlight if it looks like this is something I will be doing more often.

Anyways is there anything other than build quality and lack of ETTL that is wrong with the Cowboy studio kits from Amazon(unfortunately I can't justify a pocketwizard setup just yet)? Any other relatively inexpensive solutions I should consider instead for use with a 6D and 430EX II and possible second flash down the road.

You could get a 90EX (like $100) to act as a speedlite transmitter and use wireless ETTL with the 430EX. Shame the 6D doesn't have a pop up flash built in like the 60D, so you'll need a flash that can transmit master signals.

Using wireless ETTL, I also use a used 420EX ($100) as my second flash unit. It's just like a 430EX, but no manual control, just ETTL.

Look into the Yongnuo 622C triggers. For one OCF you can get two triggers which are tranceivers for something like $85. If you eventually get another speedlight, another trigger will go for $45 or so dollars. They have full TTL capability, so it should be good to go right from there.

No, there is nothing wrong with the Cowboy Studio triggers. Many reviews (and a friend of mine) all report they work perfectly fine for what they are. I prefer transceivers simply because I feel a little safer not having to rely on one trigger. If it fails, the entire system is useless. With transceivers I can just swap them. (although after about 3 yrs my YN602 transmitter is still going strong on it's first battery).

Although I only shoot manual, Taylor seems to offer up a good option for getting TTL if you're trying to get that without spending a ton. :)
*and then Ron pops in and reminds me of the 622s! LOL! oops!

Brick, trust me, I have been eyeing the 622's for quite some time. I got beat out on a pair in the sell forum, but I continue to look for them there. I should probably just quit being a cheap a$$ and just buy the darn things already. LOL

The 622c's are a great little trigger. Wireless ETTL and manual, HSS, 2nd curtain sync, and remote power control (as long as you have a compatible flash and camera combo). So nice being able to change power setting without ever having to actually walk over to the speedlight! :D

While you are waiting, download the pdf "The Other YN-622C User Guide". Link is in my signature.

This may seem like a dumb question so please forgive me. I bought the YN 603-c this past year as a way to do OCF. However, even after reading reviews before purchasing it, I decided to get them. I was looking to get into flash photography easily. Now that I am learning a bit more, i am struck with buyers remorse. I cannot change the power of the flash when mounted on a light stand unless I physically walk up and change it. While this may be well and good if you are in a studio, if you are in an event then it makes it kind of a PITA. No. It IS a PITA! No E-TTL on OCF. I cannot even dial in FLash comp in camera for it. So this brings up my question. Does the 622 allow off camera flash compensation and E-TTL for a T1i? Thanks

Mr2step - just consider your present triggers as "class fees".

622s with your T1i will allow remote control from your camera menus, both Manual and E-TTL. Have a look at post #9 above.
