Hi all,

Imagine sedimentary gorges of red and blue rock, some of the oldest sediments on the surface or the earth. Imagine +40'C heat (that's +104F), a place where life clings to what nature offers up. It's a harsh desolate place.

Shot in the wilderness outback of Western Australia is a lone shrub on the face of gorge in Karijini National Park.

You may have seen the monochrome posted a few months ago. I held back on the colour as I did much prefer the mono.

Thoughts and opinions appreciated.

Looks like an amazing place, and the persistent little tree is truly amazing. Good shot of it, too.

It's an inspiring little tree, but the first thought I had was, "I wonder how long it took for all that sediment to build up and turn to rock?"

There is a documentary called a time travelers guide to Australia that has just been released and it ep 1 will tell you a lot about Karijini and the age of the rock. I'm pretty sure the sediments are older that 400 million years. Probably closer to 500. A gorge south of here has the first known signs of life first walking on land preserved as trails of large insect like life walking across muddy sediments.
