Anyone know if Gary Fong has fixed his LS-II Delivery problems?

I read a thread where folks were waiting over a month for his product last November. I'm thinking of moving from homemade stuff (which works pretty well, actually) to the LS-II, but I'm in no mood to put up with delivery hassles.

Has the situation changed? Anyone getting quick delivery out of his outfit lately? MDJAK, how long did you end up waiting? You did eventually get your LS, I trust??

John

I ordered one for a friend last month and received it within the week -- just before Christmas at that ;) .

I didn't have a problem with delivery either.

I ordered one for Christmas and it got here less than a week later. I think I got it in 5 days. No problems. Love it too.

It's a hit and miss situation with Gary. I ordered two of them when he first released it and after about 3 months of being ignored I had my credit card company do a charge back.

That's exactly what worries me.

I know, I've got some homemade stuff, but the results with the LS-II are pretty terrific, and I'm tired of the funny looks, frankly. I'm shooting a large black-tie party for a friend in March and I want to go more mainstream.

No telling if I'll get it by March though, eh? That's the issue.

Same here.... after several email and absolutely no communication, I refuse to purchase his chili bowl. I went ahead and purchased the lumiquest softbox. Gary has absolutely NO CUSTOMER SERVICE! Anyhow, Lumiquest has better diffusers IMO.

John,

I misread your post. You're looking for the LS-II, and I was talking about the LS-PJ. I have the LS-II and don't really like it. It's too heavy and awkward. If I tip the camera forward a little bit, it drops the head of the flash down and you have to keep pushing it back up to keep the LS-II vertical. I've read a lot of posts on a wedding forum I belong to where people are complaining about the LS-PJ, so I'm just as glad he flaked out on me. I'm using an omnibounce and like it a lot better than the LS-II. This guy uses the omnibounce and gets amazing results.

I appreciate that last post, thanks! I've also heard good things about the Lumiquest ProMax system, and maybe I'll do that instead of the LS-II. It doesn't look that heavy, but I'll take your word for it.

John

edit: Wow! what a great link that planetneil is! Thanks! I'd really like to get a flash bracket, but every thread I've seen says I can get anti-twist plates for everything except that darn BG-E3 grip on my XT. Plain XT, no problem. Other grips, no problem. Any idea of a decent bracket maker that has an AT plate for the XT with the battery grip??

This is the anti twist plate should work. Tiffen is not very good at updating their compatibility list. This is the same one used for the 20d with grip and the 1 series cameras. You can also call Tiffen to double check.

Well there you go! What a great forum! Just because I never saw the XT with battery grip on any list, I thought I was SOL.

Thanks, Richard!

No problems here, actually I'm a bit spooked about how fast it arrived. I ordered mine Tue afternoon (late-ish) and received 2 different e-mails confirming the order within hours. This morning I got the UPS ship notification and was really happy about that. I had read all those horror stories too. UPS just delivered it!! That is less than 48 hours!

I'm off to try it out :)
