After much deliberation I bit the bullet and bought a 7D yesterday.

WOW what a great bit of kit. A huge step up from the 400D. Looking forward to the steep learning curve. Any tips, tricks or links will be happily received.

Here's a couple of my first shots.

Learn how to use the pop up flash to trigger your 430. There's a tutorial in my signature.

I seriously considered it but the $300-$400 difference as well as the fact I am not particularly interested in video directed me towards the 7D. I can spend the $$$ on other stuff and from what I have read if there is a difference in IQ it seems somewhat minimal. Apart from that the cameras are pretty similar in features.

Funny, that is exactly what I planned to do this evening. I'll give your tutorial a read first now, cheers.

Valid point...I had my 7D for three years and the videos were tack sharp....if you aren't doing that many of them then you've made the right choice...

Good choice.

One of the best things I did with the 7D is learn to use Back Button Focus and shoot nearly everything on AI Servo.

Have fun!

My sister, the professional baker and cake decorator once told me that my camera takes great pics. My reply was that I thought her oven baked great cakes.

Your lack of interest in video is essentially the same reason I chose to buy a 7D now and not wait for the 70D. In the process is saves be a lot of cash that I can use for other goodies, not that I wouldn't have bought them anyway. ;)

The one feature the 70D has that I would like on my body is the articulated screen. I like to shoot macro and for those down low subjects it would be a real clothing and dignity saver. :D

Congrats on the new camera. Read the manual and practice each step along the way to see which ones you will use and those you will not.

Ha, dignity is overrated. I reckon it is a badge of honour to be covered in grime to get THE shot.:)
