So, I was hanging out at a lake this morning waiting for a sunrise when I saw, out of the corner of my eye, a bird standing in the water about 25 feet away from me. I've been to this lake a hundred times and only see geese and ducks. I had my 15-85mm mounted on a tripod, and the bird was kind enough to stay still while I ran to the truck, brought down my 100-400, unmounted, and switched lenses. I got off three shots before it decided it was time to fly. It was pretty dark, so the quality kind of sucks, but I'd like to know what it is.

Great Blue Heron...around here they are pretty flighty. They must be more used to people where you are at, if I get within 60 or so yards they take flight every time.
