Went sailing today. Got this shot. Is it just me, but what is it about sailboats that just makes you want to keep looking at them? I post a lot of critiques to this forum, Here's your chance for payback. Go for it.

40D, 70-200 f/2.8L, with IS turned off because taking a picture from a pitching, yawing, rolling sailboat just throws IS into fits of insanity.

I'm not really keen on the position of the blowboats, and I don't think the blue one really adds anything. I also find it a little flat.

Here's my take on it, a crop, a few minor tweaks, and this is what I came up with (I may have added too much contrast):

If steroids are illegal for athletes, should PS be illegal for models?

I completely disagree. I think the purpose of the second, farther boat is to add dimension. To me, the photo is like a premise on which I can imagine the boats continuing forward and swooping past each other. The crop I would keep, but the colors seem wrong. Maybe the water is too dark, or the sky too bland, but the blues need improvement.

I like the original crop...both boats are what makes the shot. The exposure on the boats looks good, the water and sky look a little flat. Perhaps bringing the sky and water levels up just a tic would give it that extra little kick.

I also like the 2 boats but , if you wanted depth with good composition, might have been better to let the red boat overlap the blue a little. The way it is now, the image is split in half - left boat, ...space , then right blue boat.
Also agree with fluegers - the the sky is off and the water does appear dark

Might me a good candidate for a sky replacement composite. The sky is a little boring. Or if you could do some selective adjustment in the current sky and see what you can do for details. Just my thoughts.

I like the original crop. The second is a photo of a boat, the first tells a bit of an action story.

I llike to watch sail boats - from shore. Listen to your IS - it may be trying to tell you something.

Thanks for the feedback, all. Point taken on the sky and water. I was so focused on not blowing out the details in the white sails and hulls that I neglected the other stuff.
