Nice photos. Where were the pics of the grizzly taken? That picture of that second bear looks more like a black bear to me.

Thanks dbricks, Do you mean the pic in my second post? If so that was taken a hundred yards after crossing the border from Montana to Albert. The crossing is near Waterton Nat park Alberta. I was not sure on that as it appeared smaller than the other (first 2 pics first post) and I could not see a hump. However he was in deep cover and moving all the time, I never got to see the whole bear at one time.

Yeah, I was talking about the bear in your second post. The face looks a lot like a black bear. Sometimes their coloring makes it hard to tell, though.

I would say the second photo has the 'straight face' of a black bear.

Second bear is almost certainly a Black Bear with a lighter coat; I love that first shot, with "the tongue" :)

Thanks Snydemark. I suspected it was not a Grizzly but was not sure, we don't get to many bears in in central Florida :-D Another question. You will notice that its head is a purple color it is the same in all the pics I took, when I took the picks he/she was in the middle of a large bush and it looked like he/she was devouring the bush. Could the purple color be from berries?

The bear with its tongue out. When I saw the bear it was walking down a bank into a gully when I saw a small brown animal ( I suspect a ground squirrel) running up the opposite bank under the undergrowth. It ran to the top of the bank and behind the rock and bush. The bear followed it and with one paw the bush was ripped out and its head went down to where the roots would have been. When the bear lifted its head up the tongue was out.The demise of the squirrel?

It could be. It might also be the way your camera renders the color of the bear. When I was processing a few pictures of a black bear, it had a magenta hue to it. I had to do some color adjustments to correct it.

Thanks dbricks. I attempted to get rid of it but all I got was a lighter purple!

I suspect, from that image, that you were out on a clear, sunny day. It sort of looks like blue sky reflecting off its fur, to me.

If these were taken in and around the Jasper/Banff area, the bears love to dine on buffalo berries. That would be my guess
