If these were taken in and around the Jasper/Banff area, the bears love to dine on buffalo berries. That would be my guess

Hi Leon the grizzly was in the Banff/Jasper area. The black bear was on the border between Babb Montana and Waterton Canada

I suspect, from that image, that you were out on a clear, sunny day. It sort of looks like blue sky reflecting off its fur, to me.

It was a clear sunny day with bright blue sky however in all the shots I got (not very good) only the head was purple.

As you can see in this bad shot the head is still purple even though its head is in the shade. All the shots where you can see the head are purple but non on the rest of the body.

Second bear is a black....you can tell from the big floppy prominent ears. Grizzlys have a smaller more laid back ear.
