I would have moved them farther from the backgrounds. They are just too distracting for me.

The 1st is one of the better kids pics I have seen in a while....both nice expressions, good low angle, good focus and colour (no lime -green grass :) ).
It does need a bit of a boost in the mid-range (levels) to make it pop more and I agree there is too much head room (the wall). I cropped it down while keeping your ratio and desaturated background a bit ...plus the mid level boost:

Thanks, and I agree with the crop - and should have moved them up more...

If interested the rest of the set is here: (got a lot of good expressions as they were both really into the shoot)

I took a look....you are lucky to get both with some nice smiles or expressions.
Odds are usually one has that forced or dorky (boys!) look....from experience.
#396 really works for me....some nice lighting too.

Thanks, that is one of my favorites (probably should have put that one up for critique) :) but I did want opinions on the picture(s) by the brick sign...

The only thing that got me initially was the young mans arm over the young ladies back in the first picture. It took me a second to figure out if that was his arm, or a weirdly shaped leg for the young lady.
I would have cropped the photo with the young lady and the flowers closer. The bone(?) in her left hand is distracting.

Believe it or not, that actually is her leg, she's extremely flexible  I actually cloned his hand out because it looked weird.

Yea, that is a bone, she likes playing archeologist :)

I think it's great you dropped the camera down to their level. So easy to do; yet so often overlooked. That in itself helps set these photos apart.

Thanks, Knee, or belly in most of these shots :)

Color, light, and clarity are excellent but the low angle isn't working for me.

The first is the best of this group but the boys arm keeps drawing my eye, even after figuring out what it was.

I did check the others and agree with Spike on #396, with the exception of the fingers on her shoulder.

Thanks Dave, what do you mean by the low angle? Do you think I should have been higher?

Again, in the first pic that's not his arm, it's her leg :)

And I see now what you mean about the fingers on her shoulder in #396, looks like a claw :(

Getting down at a child's level and shooting straight on makes sense but when they are lying on the ground, especially oriented toward the camera it makes for odd leg/arm positions as well as OOF limbs. I much prefer a seated or standing pose unless the body is across the scene rather than receding out of it.
