Not a 100% accurate test but fun never the less.

Think this falls in a "personal preference" category. Wide open or stopped down?

I'll got for f/8 as well.

PS: I would try to clone out all the pollen particles on the white leafs, it will be time consuming, but the resulting pure white leafs should provide even more impact.

I like them both... I usually like something between f/4 and f/5 for middle shots like this, however. I think 2.8 is just a bit too narrow DoF. I will say, however, that these are much better then the first shot of that hybrid. Just lovely!

I like both, I would go for the second one (f/8) because the centre of the flower is sharp, however part of that sharpness difference is the flower angle.

Thank you everyone for your comments on this, think what I shall do is actually set up the tripod and redo this and try varying apertures to try and find the "right" balance. I feel a bit more partial to the composition of #1 so think that's the angle I'll test at. Thanks again all :)
