I was wondering what the feeling is on using glossy vs. matt photo paper. What is the general preference for nature photography?

I use matt for all customer prints, or lustre.

i think, although i could be wrong, that matte/lustre is kind of the industry standard for professional prints

I've heard a pro bashing matte papers in general

Pro prints are supposed to be done in gloss, but he didnt' elaborate and i didn't have a chance to ask.

glossy prints tend to look sharper and are more often used in promo shots or comp cards

matte prints tend to not show fingerprints as well and are better for framing because there is less chance of a double glare, one from the glass and one from the print - glossy also tends to stick to glass if no matte is used when putting the frame together

after that, its a personal preferance

I like the output I get using Ilford Gallerie Classic Pearl with my Canon i9100

But I don't print much other than proofs.

In my area (Sacramento, CA) there are anumber of stores (photo and office supply) that sell a variety of ink-jet photo papers. I buy most of mine at a place called "Camera Arts"

Another vote for Ilford 'Classic Pearl' paper from me.
In the UK I get mine from 7dayshop.com - currently selling 25 sheet boxes for £6.99 or 3 boxes (75 sheeets) for £17.99!

I print mostly canon glossy or semi glossy papers but for A4 i like the matte velvet surface.

Glossy prints don't view well under glass, unless it's non-glare glass.

With a T* coating? ;)

I don't know anything on the subject unfortunately. :(

I guess they he was so professional, he wasn't even considering mounting in non-coated glass. ;)
