@adrian - Aaduki do seem to be getting a lot of good write ups from what I have found so think they are top of the list. Will drop you a PM with a specific question if that's ok. Thanks again.

+1 for Hever for the reasons already given.

Morning folks,

I trust everyone's well?

I don't recall ever going to Hever Castle, but I do love Bodiam (tho I agree it's a little light on other stuff to do) - have you considered Leeds Castle too? oh and congrats on the new pad btw :D

just a heads up for those of you with a 1DX, I am having to return my camera to Canon, following a weekend of 'proper' use for the first time since it's return following recall for a problem I'd not even noticed - the camera now seems to showing all the signs of the fault... dark spots on the sensor, what I can only assume to be the reported grease spots from the mechanism... so might be worth keeping an eye out for it :(

As people have said, probably more to see and do at Hever. Its not part of National Trust or English Heritage, so you'll pay to get in. Also last of the Jousting 23rd / 24th August (although you won't be taking photos ;) ).

Bodiam Castle is National Trust but is not intact, however you've also got the Kent and East Sussex railway (external link) at Bodiam.

Leeds castle is also a nice castle. Big gardens to walk around in etc.

There is also Arundel Castle with the Wetland centre nearby.

To make life more difficult ...

Anyone care to join me for a combined Air Show/Buzzard shoot on Saturday?

I'll be spending the day on Knowl Hill on the outskirts of Cranleigh, Surrey watching the days flying displays from high up. The hill (and the Knowl House itself) is used as a waypoint for the aircraft at the Wings and Wheels Show this weekend.
It's also where I used to walk my dogs and photograph the Buzzards up until my split from my wife.

Free public access and the show starts at about 11:30 so if anyone fancies joining me, please feel free.

To find the hill itself, Take the Alfold road away from Cranleigh, pass over the little bridge and drive to the end of the Greenhouses. Just past this point (10-15 metres) is a small lay-by with a metal gate leading to a public footpath. follow this to the end of the first field and look 45 degrees right and you'll see a large Oak tree on the edge of a copse at the top of the hill. I'll be there from about 10:45.

NEW MEET!
I've put this in the first post.

OK question for you guys. I want to go out for the day with a friend this weekend and im going to take her to one of our castles. Its not going to be a photographic trip, just a sightseeing enjoying the walk trip.

Would you say Hever Castle Or Bodium Castle would be a better destination. Both are beautiful and both are packed with history, although very different.

You opinions are gratefully recieved!

I love Bodiam, it's more of a castle castle than Hever. There are some nice walks around it too I seem to recall.

Vels and I went to Bodium recently. The history and talks are great, but as others have said its not a long day out, nor much fun if the weather takes a turn. We also did Scotney Castle which is not far down the road, but the weather was bad so we only got to see the house. The gardens and castle are supposed to e very nice too.

I can confirm Scotney Castle is lovely - though not one to get caught in the rain at...

nice moat type action for pics though (I know you're not interested in pics on this trip tho)

My Black Rapid Sports Camo arrived today. Wow, what an improvement over the Optech one.

Is anyone after an Optech one?

Evening all.
Hope everyone's well. Sorry to hear that about your 1DX Lee how disappointing and annoying. :(
Couple of pics of Elsa, my friend's puppy, she's 9 weeks old now and top of the cute scale.
